So what is a Col?
A Col is a pass over a mountain and as such they are usually quite high.
With my mate, Jim (the Salty Pigeon), I am hoping to cycle 19 of these passes to travel from our home near Geneva all the way to Nice. Some 800km away.
We set off for Nice on Saturday 6th July and hope to arrive for dinner on Friday 12th
So that is 19 of the most famous Cols in Europe, over 20,000m of climbing, over 800km and all in just 7 days.
That is no mean feat for an overweight 41 year old, with sore knees and a sorer arse, who has not trained anywhere near enough and has never before cycled big days in concession.
Even more worrying for Jim is the fact that he will be attempting this with someone with a diagnosed mental disorder!
Not that I am about to stab him through the shower curtain or strip naked at the top of the Galibier and start singing show tunes but I do suffer with Acute Anxiety Disorder.
At one point it was so bad I struggled to even get on a train and here I am, living in France, working in Geneva and about to ride, what for me, will be a great adventure.
This blog is my way of recording that adventure to remind myself what I can achieve because by continuing to push the boundaries of what is possible means that the day to day living that used to be seem so difficult becomes so much easier.
I hope that if you read this blog you will find it interesting and I will try my best to make it so, but as it is not really for you I dont really mind if you dont. :-)
Oh and by the way - seeing that we are doing this great ride I thought i might try and earn a few euros, pounds or francs for a Charity
I have chosen War Child - it is a really great cause - so please have a look at my justgiving site for more info... http://www.justgiving.com/Archie289
